New York City
This holiday season, the Walnut Street Theatre produces a
new production of Cats, the longest running musical in the history of Broadway. Based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical juggernaut is set in a junkyard, at the annual gathering of the Jellicle Cats. The Cats gather once a
year to celebrate their unique qualities and at the end of the celebration,
their leader, Old Deuteronomy, will choose one cat to journey to the
Heaviside Layer to be reborn. Songs include “Rum Tum Tugger,” “Mr. Mistoffolees,” and the unforgettable “Memory.” Richard Stafford directs and choreographs.
The production includes a rarely seen and heard song, “The Ballad of Billy McCaw.”
