About This Show

Everyone’s favorite red-headed heroine is back as the Walnut Street Theatre opens its season with Annie Warbucks, the charming follow-up to last season’s record-breaking holiday smash, Annie. Charles Abbott directs.

Created by the same team that wrote the original, this appealing story has a
book by Thomas Meehan and is filled with swing and ragtime style music by
Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin. A musical comedy for the whole family, Annie Warbucks begins where Annie left off. It’s Christmas Day, 1933, and Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks has announced his plans to adopt Annie. However, the new family’s holiday celebration is cut short when Child Welfare Commissioner, Harriet Doyle, arrives to inform Warbucks that New York law states that an unmarried man cannot adopt a child. Daddy Warbucks is left with 60 days to find a wife to complete the family, or Annie has to go back to the orphanage. In this heartfelt show, the race to the altar is filled with a rousing new score, plenty of scene-stealing orphans, new villains, and Annie’s best friend and constant companion, Sandy.
