About this show

The expression "what goes up must come down" is the perfect motto for Walter Griffin, who once tied a bunch of weather balloons to a Sears lawn chair and soared 16,000 feet into the sky. After his ground-breaking flight, his life will never be the same. But since then, he has not been able to live up to the great expectations he once had for bigger and better achievements in aviation. Walter is a dreamer, living in a competitive society where money and fame are often the measure of success. He spends his time fantasizing about the high-wire artist Phillipe Petit, who inspires him to "live life without a net." Yet Walter is grounded by the increasing pressure from his wife to please just get a job. Instead, Walter chooses instead to make one final gamble. Meanwhile, his son Mikey is in high school and is more aware than ever that his father is probably not ever going to support the family in the way that a "normal" dad would. Looking elsewhere, the teenager befriends a pregnant classmate and her aunt, which leads him down an new, exciting, and risky path. Up is a quirky, funny and bittersweet story that launches the Hippodrome's 37th season into the stratosphere.
