In its first-ever workshop staging, Feast of the Seven Sinners invites you into a deliciously defiant klezmer musical, performed in Yiddish with English supertitles. Set in 1897 Lithuania, the story reveals the sordid underworld of a criminal gang whose every scheme is inspired by the seven chief Jewish vices. On the eve of Yom Kippur, when tradition calls for fasting and reflection, the Sinners gather for a lavish banquet, celebrating their sins in brazen defiance of the holiest day of the year.
But as every bite is laced with consequence, the gang must confront an unsettling truth: even the most savory rebellion can simmer into its own kind of orthodoxy. Tonight’s feast may be their most delicious yet and the most destructive to the spirit of their subversive collective.
Staged during Pride, this raucous, subversive work queers tradition as boldly as it defies it, celebrating forbidden appetites, queer love, and the bonds forged in rebellion.
You’re welcome at the table, but be warned — certain cravings can never be satisfied.
