About This Show

There’s no better way to celebrate Black History Month than with The Dixie Hummingbirds! Since the 1920s they have created and performed music deeply rooted in the gospel tradition, their influence known far and wide in American popular music. As Isaac Hayes once said, “In the beginning, after the word, and before there was rap, hip-hop, disco, punk, funk, metal, soul, Motown, rock-a-billy, before bebop, doo-wop, and the big band swing there was the Dixie Hummingbirds.”

Come to the theatre early for a workshop with the Dixie Hummingbirds, featuring a discussion of the history and style of their music, a Q&A session and even a live preview of their performance to follow later that evening. Workshop begins at 3pm and is free and open to all ages.
