About This Show

Bebe Neuwirth and Kathleen Turner star in a staged reading of The Vultures, by Henri Becque, directed by Jim Simpson. The cast also features Annie Parisse, Maria Dizzia, James Waterston, Sarah Silk, Jacqueline Chambord, Ron Faber, Gerry Bamman, Mark Zeisler, Jaime Robert Carillo, James Blanshard, Drew Hildebrand, and Barnett Cohen.

A father’s heart attack, a fortune suddenly up for grabs, and an otherwise peaceful family left to fight like animals for the spoils — it’s The Vultures, a play by the little-known nineteenth century French writer Henri Becque, resurrected in English for a reading on American soil. Through the mere naked text and the powerful performances behind it, a caustic indictment of Industrial Age mores becomes a cautionary tale for our own.

The Vultures is presented by FIAF (French Institute Alliance Française) in partnership with The Flea Theater as part of Crossing the Line: FIAF Fall Festival, a multidisciplinary program of theater, dance, music, visual arts and film celebrating cross cultural artistic exchange between France and New York City from September 25 – October 30, 2007.
