New York City
SALAAM! (South Asian League of Artists in AMerica) presents a dramatic reading of Manjula Padmanabhan’s The Sextet, followed by a reading by Manjula from her new book, Getting There, co-directed by Manjula Padmanabhan and Sourabh Chatterjee, featuring Sanjay Chandani and David Sajadi. The Sextet is a set of six short plays exploring different areas of sexual
life amongst humans. Getting There is a semi-autobiographical account of a journey made in the
late seventies from Bombay to Holland via the US and Germany. The author was 24 years old, an artist struggling to make a living, over-weight and confused. Traveling to Holland was her attempt to make sense of the Universe, lose weight and find lasting disillusionment in the arms of two
tall Dutch men.
