New York City
Not since 1924 has Kurt Weill’s ballet “Zaubernacht (Magic Night)” been seen in the United States. In fact, this ballet was the first Kurt Weill work ever performed in America. The work was lost until its recent reconstruction. Maestro Philip Nuzzo leads the orchestra in the New York premiere of this new edition in what will be a most historic evening. Joining Maestro Nuzzo, the former star of the Bolshoi Ballet, Valentina Koslova, brings her New York City Dance Conservatory to the stage in an evening devoted to the music of Kurt Weill. Ms. Koslova, aside from her ballet career has appeared on Broadway in “On Your Toes”, returns to the Metro Chamber Orchestra, where she performed Barber’s “Cave of the Heart” in 2003 to great acclaim. Also featured on the program is Weill’s dramatic cantata “Der Neue Orpheus”, sung by the rising young dramatic soprano, Therese Panicali. “Weillophiles” and dance aficionados get your tickets early for this very special evening.
