About the Show
The Hourglass is based on the true story of Hiroo Onoda, whose story playwright, Drew Pierson, learned of from his wife Theresa.
This play follows a college dropout, Junie, who is risking his life fumbling through the jungle to find Lieutenant Takeda. Lieutenant Takeda is a Japanese soldier, isolated on an island, decades after World War II ended, though he believes it hasn’t.
After tracking down the Lieutenant, Junie struggles to convinces him to surrender and leave the island, after 30 years of solitude. Lieutenant Takeda agrees to surround and leave the island, only if his Commanding Officer, from three decades early, personally comes to relieve him of his duty.
Junie is tasked with tracking down Commander Moon, having only his name and the hope that he is still alive, to go on.
