About This Show

Eugene Marlow’s Heritage Ensemble has made a remarkable musical achievement, having developed a repertoire of Jewish liturgical songs and Israeli folk songs arranged in various jazz and neo-classical styles. The ensemble’s repertoire includes melodies from the Hebraic Songbook and gives a contemporary twist to traditional songs and prayers of the Jewish culture. Over the years The Heritage Ensemble has performed these arrangements in various venues, such as Symphony Space (Beyond Shelter), Synagogue Anche Chesed, Congregation Rodeph Shalom, The Society for Advancement of Judaism, and Tavern on the Green (The Dance Library of Israel). Performing music from their CD titled Making the Music Our Own, The Heritage Ensemble features Bobby Sanabria (drums), Frank Wagner (bars), and Michael Hashim (saxophone), Obe Allende (percussionist), and Eugene Marlowe,PH.D. WBAI co-host of "Beyond The Pale: The Progressive Jewish Radio Hour" states "…Marlow’s jazz renditions let us hear traditional Hebrew melodies in stirring new ways. I loved it. I just loved it!"
