About This Show

Directed by Conor Horgan

The Beholder is a documentary film about portraiture and explores three of Ireland’s most notable painters at work: Brian Maguire, James Hanley, and Mick O’Dea. Through each painter, the film examines the importance of the painted portrait as an emblem of power and prestige, as a political act, and as memorial.
