About This Show

The original Broadway cast of Rent reunites for Rent 10, a one night-only, benefit concert version of the show to mark the 10th anniversary of Jonathan Larson’s landmark musical. The concert is followed by a gala celebration at Cipriani 42nd Street. The evening, directed by Rent director Michael Greif, benefits three non-profit organizations — Friends In Deed, the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation, and New York Theatre Workshop — that not only share strong connections to Jonathan Larson, but also exemplify through their work the commitment to building culture, community, and creativity that is celebrated in Rent.

Rent opened at Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre on April 29, 1996 following a history making, sold out, extended limited engagement at off-Broadway’s New York Theatre Workshop. The musical went on to win every major best musical award, including the Tony Award, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for drama. It also launched the careers of an incredible group of young performers, including Taye Diggs, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Jesse L. Martin, Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp, and Daphne Rubin-Vega.

The original cast members are Gilles Chiasson, Taye Diggs, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Rodney Hicks, Kristen Lee Kelly, Jesse L. Martin, Idina Menzel, Aiko Nakasone, Timothy Britten Parker, Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Gwen Stewart, Byron Utley, and Fredi Walker-Browne.
