About This Show

The Paul Taylor Dance Company returns to New York City Center with 16 classics including Airs, Arden Court, Company B, Esplanade, Piazzolla Caldera, Promethean Fire and Sunset, and the premieres of Lines of Loss and the un-Shakespearean farce, Troilus and Cressida (reduced).

Dancemaker Paul Taylor is celebrated around the world for works that run the gamut from sparkling wit and astonishing athleticism to breathtaking brilliance and shattering impact.

“No other choreographer has created such a probing portrait of the American psyche as Paul Taylor,” says the Washington Times. “His towering talent has captured our joys, tenderness, fears and absurdities in fresh, imaginative movement that makes his group one of the most appealing dance companies in the country. His extraordinary dancers move like angels — swift, graceful, daring — and, when the occasion calls, with demonic fierceness… Banquet of Vultures conveys post-September 11’s sense of terror like nothing else I’ve seen on stage, capturing the hopelessness, doom-laden despair and mindless brutality at large in the world… The over-the-top, hilarious Troilus and Cressida (reduced) [is] a decidedly offbeat version of the Shakespeare play set to suitably bouncy music. No one can do funny better than Mr. Taylor and his dancers’ split-second timing and goofy moves… The audience [was] roaring with laughter.”

“Now the best NY has to offer in dance” – The Observer

“The greatest choreographer in the world.” – Vanity Fair
