About This Show

World Premiere

Following the success of their recent, large-scale work, Zenith 5 – which premiered last August at The Spiegeltent and which was presented by Performance Space 122 – composer/theatre artist John Moran and partner, Japanese dancer/choreographer Saori Tsukada were commissioned to create a new work for the ’07 season at P.S. 122.

What If Saori Had a Party? explores the back-and-forth relationship between American and Japanese culture – in the form of an abstracted Japanese children’s show: something like Teletubbies on acid. Like architects of space and sound, John Moran and Saori invent an intricately synchronized aural and visual environment. Composed, directed and designed by Mr. Moran, and jointly choreographed by Mr. Moran and Ms. Tsakuda, the theatre-concert features three performers, a Japanese text and 3D animation (also created by Mr. Moran) that accompanies the live action throughout the performance.
