Vignettes for the Apocalypse 2009, now in its third year, a collection of twenty one-act plays, dealing with dystopian, futuristic, and apocalyptic themes.
Artistic Director Russell Dobular and Dramaturg Chris Sheppard have chosen pieces that reflect a diversity of writing styles, ranging from sci-fi to traditional horror, the comic, and the dramatic, while representing a unifying vision of our culture and society, both past and present, as it faces the real possibility of imminent collapse. This year’s festival will premiere, The Godling, a modern Grand Guignol, examining the future of the circus freakshow, by cult writer/actor, Mark Borkowski, The ‘You Knows’ Know, a slyly comic vision of a future in which the political left has taken over, and run wild, by Derek Ahonen, of the up-and-coming company, The Amoralists, and Hope Rd., a dark noir, set in the Alaskan wilderness, and helmed by award-winning director, Jeremy Pape, of this summer’s Fringe hit, Knuckleball. In addition, the offerings will explore zombie reality TV, an apocalyptic Dorothy, long after Oz, the homoeroticism of military training, and the real commitments of eco-activists, when the polar bear is at the door.
