Steve Capra’s new play The Way of the Pilgrim is adapted from the Russian devotional work of the same name, written anonynously in the mid-19th century. It relates the travels of an Orthodox pilgrim through Czarist Russia as he seeks the method of prayer. In his travels, he meets a gallery of people who contribute to his spiritual development and collectively form a panorama of Czarist Russia. We’re introduced to characters in the military, the monastery, and the nobility — thieves, vagabonds, and the spiritual teacher.
