Sanctuary Theatre Workshop founded by actor Rip Torn will present a new translation of Eugene Ionesco’s rarely performed masterpiece, The Picture. The story unfolds as the “Large Gentleman,” a shrewd businessman, barters with a painter over a picture. The businessman haggles his way down from a $400,000 price tag, till the poor artist ends up owing him money. The triumph of commerce over culture. Or is it? Deranged by the beauty and power of the picture itself, the “Large Gentleman” transforms into the greatest artist of all. His medium, murder…his masterpiece, a bloodbath…
