The Merchant of Venice
$18 - $20
As this version is set on the final days of WW2 in northern Italy, citizens are celebrating the death of Adolf Hitler and the landscape is marred with opposing propaganda on “the enemy.” Against this polarized backdrop, Shylock attempts to navigate a Europe that imprisoned and murdered his people, Antonio falls in love with Bassanio, an American soldier, who in turn is in love with Portia, a socialite from Manhattan.
Bitingly dramatic, but at the same time humorous, this production of Merchant finds new relevance in this unique setting.
