About the Show

Set in New York’s elitist Washington Square district in 1850, The Heiress by Ruth & Augustus Goetz, centers around the socially awkward and painfully shy spinster Catherine, who stands to inherit a tidy sum. Her wealthy father, Dr. Austin Sloper is quick to point out his daughter lacks charm, social graces and beauty. When the dashing, but penniless, international playboy Morris Townsend begins courting Catherine, her father accuses him of being a gold-digger and forbids the marriage. Catherine’s Aunt Lavinia encourages the affair believing, or at least hoping, the young man is sincere.

Is Townsend the knight in shining armor who will rescue Catherine from a stifling, loveless home, or the most cunning of wolves in the sleekest of sheep’s clothing? All is in doubt until the emotionally shattering conclusion. Mahayana Landowne directs. Produced by Joshua P. Weiss for the Roundtable Ensemble, Ltd.

The cast features: Kelly Ann Moore, James Jacobson, Michael Balsley, Michele Tauber, Rebecca Hoodwin, Sarah Dandridge, Jean Morgan, Dee Pelletier and David Gochfeld.
