About This Show

WorkShop Theater Company presents two classic stories, each rooted in the holiday season. It’s O. Henry and Holmes for the Holidays!

The Blue Carbuncle with Sherlock Holmes
It is Christmas in London, 1889. Dr. Watson visits his friend Sherlock Holmes to convey his Christmas greetings, and is greeted with a complex mystery to be solved; a stolen priceless gem has been found inside a goose. Follow the pair across London as they encounter a myriad of colorful characters in their search for the thief of The Blue Carbuncle. A Christmas story for the sleuth in all of us.

The Gift of the Magi
It is Christmas in New York, 1905. Della and Jim, a working class couple, very much in love with each other but barely able to afford their one-room apartment, struggle to find the money to buy each other a Christmas gift. Ultimately they sacrifice what is most precious to them. Such unselfish love, as the story and its title suggest, is like the gifts given by the wise men, called magi, who brought the baby in the manger gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
