About This Show

The Ontological-Hysteric Theatre is replacing its OBIE Award winning Blueprint Series this year with a 5-week festival called the Summer Series. 5 weeks, 5 shows, A Hot New Festival, Same Cold Air Conditioning. These 5 pieces range from static banality to manic bizarrerie each creating their own unique environments using analog and digital media to push the boundaries of expression and communicate their own inimitable vision of the world.

Kara Feely : Is this a gentleman?

A collection of lectures, exercises, conversations, and interrogations that contemplates gentlemanly behavior and the understanding of English. Written and directed by Kara Feely, with sound design by Travis Just and performed by Ross Beschler and Avi Glickstein.

31 Down radio theater: That’s Not How Mahler Died

Multimedia theater group 31 Down presents a hauntingly hypnotic tale. Technology is hidden behind a sultry glimpse into a noir-styled drama of obsession and voyeurism. Created and performed by Ryan Holsopple, Lian Sifuentes, and Frank Boudreaux with a special appearance by DJ Mendel. Technical designs are by John Luton, Keunyoung Oh, and Mirit Tal.

Normandy Sherwood & Jenny Seastone Stern: Tea with the Twins or the end of the world

“Come to tea before you are obliterated. We will give you cake while we tell you all the good news about why we are the only ones in the world who will be left. We don’t know where you’re going to, but we wish you the best. Don’t be sad for us; we won’t be sad for you. Please join us for the last night of secret folk dancing, picture albums and dioramas!” Written, directed, designed and performed by Normandy Sherwood and Jenny Seastone Stern with DJ Mendel and featuring Andrew Dinwiddie as the Interloper.

Temporary distortion: Last Year the Universe- It Came to me in a Dream

Isolated in one of Temporary distortion’s signature box structures, a man and woman explore the memories of an unrequited love through blank stares, static dialog, stillness and songs. Written and directed by Kenneth Collins, performed by Brian Greer and Lorraine Mattox, set & light design by Kenneth Collins, video design by Bill Cusick, costume design by Tara Fawn Marek and music composed by Andrew Elsesser.

Annie Kunjappy & Temple Crocker: Veils/Vestiges: the aesthetics of hidden things

Veils/Vestiges: the aesthetics of hidden things explores, in five short chapters, the metaphor of the body as a holding house, the mysterious dwelling place that contains not only our organs, but the nuances of our dreams, the rememberances of the past, and the imagination of that which is unknown. Written, directed and performed by Annie Kunjappy and Temple Crocker with Daniel Nelson, Will Waghorn, Barb Lancier, and lighting design by Tom Ontiveros.
