Strange News from Another Planet

Ring of Fire Productions presents Strange News from Another Planet, a new rock musical with book & lyrics by Sheila Callaghan and music & lyrics by Michael Alltop. The show takes two wartime fairy tales of Hermann Hesse as a jumping-off point for a musical that’s full of contemporary sound and fury. It’s a jagged, ragged, 144 bpm rock ‘n’ roll comic fantasia with a nice little satiric bite.

Say hello to the new century. World War Whatever continues for the umpteenth year, and a lovely chaos has spread across the land. Two travelers–a world-weary cynic and a youthful idealist from another planet–bump into each other on a battlefield. One is looking for his glasses; the other, for flowers. Neither succeed, but in their search they meet the looters, cops, bureaucrats, and warmongers that inhabit this crumbling society.
Stuff happens–someone gets arrested, someone gets seduced, and someone else tries to sell a black market sugar beet. Songs are sung, dances are danced, people die & get eaten by a talking bird–everything you’ve come to expect in a post-apocalyptic musical, and a few things you haven’t thought of yet (watch for the singing clothes).

Now, sit back, relax, and prepare to be transported into a world of excitement and mayhem.
