New York-based choreographer Maria Hassabi is known for hyper-charged, raw, and emotional dances that are informed by the city’s frenetic pace. Her choreography, which pushes physicality to its limits, is inspired by street imagery, popular culture, visual art, film, fashion, and music. She works closely with her dancers, and also regularly collaborates with the fashion collective As Four; several different composers, including Spencer Sweeney; and a variety of multimedia artists who work on the set design and art direction of her productions. Building on her previous works, Hassabi combines her investigation of the over-stimulating urban experience with elements of the natural world, including wind, to represents the supreme power of nature in Still Smoking. The performers are David Adamo, Caitlin Cook, Ori Flomin, Jessie Gold, Hristoula Harakas, and Maria Hassabi.
