About This Show

In the semi-autobiographical Sometimes Over the Summer…, Andrea Kolb portrays the women in her life, including her mother, her grandmother, and several versions of herself, as she tries to come to terms with her shortcomings as a mother and wife. A satirical and emotional graphic coming of age tale of a bright and attractive native New Yorker hurtling (mostly unprepared and against her will) into motherhood, this performance traces Kolb’s own marital difficulties by taking us on a panoramic journey through several New York epochs, from the 70’s of her adolescence to the present. The play’s frank evocation of a bourgeois and politically steeped Upper West Side upbringing and Kolb’s musings about the effect of a youth deterrred due to her own parents experimenting with the new prerogatives of the Me Generation, are at times hilarious and heartbreaking.

This show is part of the Midtown International Theatre Festival.
