New York City
Pumpkin Pie Show: RingSideSeats, a new pseudo-musical complete with song & dance, features stories written by Clay McLeod Chapman and music written & performed by One Ring Zero (Michael Hearst & Joshua Camp). The show centers around mass murderer and serial rapist Wallace Reese. Days away from the gas chamber, an artist asks Reese to donate his body; his anatomically precise physique to be rendered in a sculpted portrait that becomes a chance at immortality. As Reese gets closer to inhaling the gas chamber’s hydrocyanic acid, the people he effected come to grips with how they’re all interconnected to one man on his way into oblivion. A housewife heads a fan club whose members raise money through bake sales; with the proceeds funding bus tickets to visit Reese. A prison guard concocts a lucrative business venture by transporting inmates’ sperm to lonely wives and girlfriends on the other side. The mother of one of Wallace’s victims writes a love letter to the murderer of her daughter.
RingSideSeats uses musical logic to create a Pumpkin Pie Show whose monologues interconnect to form a singular narrative. . . while further expanding the unique/rich theatrical effect of Chapman’s text merged with the music of One Ring Zero. Built upon a seemingly un-musical storyline, these characters reach their lowest emotional depths; hitting points of depravity that can only be ascended by song.
