As modern people grow used to the comforts and conveniences of advanced civilization, they begin to feel emptier. This sense of emptiness only gets bigger, until finally those people embark on a long pilgrimage in search of man’s true fate. What they find at the end of that pilgrimage is not so important. From the moment they take their first step, their search moves towards enlightenment. Choreographed by Sin Cha Hong, Pilgrimage explores the inexpressible fulfilment in each moment of the journey.
“After a performance in Berlin, the audience gave 10-minutes’ standing ovation…. Sin Cha Hong, like Pina Bausch of Korea.”
– J. Lehmann, OTZ News Paper, Weimer, Germany, 1988
“Fitting for the theme of the event ‘From Shamanism to Avant-garde,’ Pilgrimage of Laughing Stone Dane Theater and Shin Cha Hong’s sole dance ‘Bird’ intensely carved the existence of Korean avant-garde art onto the sensibility of German visitors.”
– Berliner Morgen Post, 1988
