Ntozake Shange: Retrospective

In honor of the several groundbreaking works of award-winning playwright, actress, director, novelist, and educator Ntozake Shange (OBIE, Drama Desk, AUDELCO and Tony -nominated For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When The Rainbow Is Enuf), Woodie King, Jr’s New Federal Theatre presents a multifaceted theatrical event comprised of poetry, spoken word, readings and panel discussions. It promises to unequivocally deliver outstanding presentations of some of Shange’s best plays and choreopoems, including Boogie Woogie Landscape, A Photograph: Lovers In Motion, From Okra To Greens / A Different Kind Of Love Story, Laila’s Dream and the brilliantly adapted masterpiece based on the work of Bertolt Brecht, Mother Courage. The panel discussions are hosted by musicians, choreographers, directors, musicians and poets who were a part of Ntozake’s phenomenal success.

Ntozake Shange’s powerful new one-act play, It Hasn’t Always Been This Way, directed by Dianne McIntyre, runs from February 21 through March 4 at Castillo Theatre.
