About This Show

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the novel, the Classical Theatre of Harlem proudly presents the world premiere of Richard Wright’s Native Son. Set in Chicago in the 1930’s, the play centers on Bigger Thomas, a young African-American man who is a representative black victim of white racism. He is doomed, trapped in a downward spiral that will lead to arrest, prison, or death. Driven by despair, frustration, and poverty, he has no way out of the walls of racism that surround him. After he murders a young white woman in a moment of panic, those walls begin to close in.
