The kids’ party game, but with higher stakes!

Yankee Rep presents Musical Chairs: A Chance Play In 8 Scenes Out Of 20. The play is about relationships between husbands and wives, friends and spouses, strangers connected only by a common lover. Through the classic children’s game of “musical chairs”, a parallel is drawn between the games we play as children, and those we play as adults. Resident Director, Chris McGinn directs this piece written exclusively for Yankee Rep, by Michael D. Rock.

Taking place over the course of one week, we meet five characters: Tom, the husband, Anne, his wife, David, his best friend, Karen, his ex-girlfriend, and Melissa, his present girlfriend.

The play is scripted with elements of improvisation: with over 32,000
possible versions of this play, no one can predict how the story is told!
The five players and an omniscient DJ who controls the music, play the game
with only 2 seats onstage. Which eight scenes are performed depends on
which two characters/actors “win” the seats. As a result, in each
performance, a different angle on these relationships emerges.
