About This Show

The OBIE Award winning Classical Theatre of Harlem launches their 4th season as they will once again bring their visceral, no-holds-barred approach to Shakespeare as they present Paul Butler and Arthur French in King Lear performed outdoors under the stars.

Paul Butler, who won universal acclaim for his work in August Wilson’s Jitney, plays the title role in what is widely regarded as the greatest tragedy ever written. Director Alfred Preisser explores the primal forces of love, betrayal, and the ultimate destruction of the moral and social order in a fast paced (under two hours!) violent and passionate rendering of Shakespeare?s famous tyrant/father.
