New York City
The play focuses on a young Jewish artist traveling abroad, confronted by a
wrathful and keenly intelligent Basque roommate who introduces him to a
world of alienating xenophobia, frenetic energy, nerve-wracking challenge,
and ultimate gratification unlike anything he had ever fathomed. Since the
play’s first reading in January 2003, the kind of anti-American sentiment
Greene depicts has grown even more prevalent, prompting Emergency Theater Project to choose this moment to produce the explosive 75-minute piece.
