About This Show

Watson Arts presents Hercules in High Suburbia as part of the New York International Fringe Festival. A comic, rock-n-roll update of Heracles by Euripides, the show is set in a gated community where wealth and fame are no guarantees against the power of wickedness or the malevolence of chance. While the play is inspired by the ancient Greek tragedy, the music flows from the 1950s, the moment when Delta blues became rock and roll. The result is raw, raucous and real.

Hercules in High Suburbia is written and directed by Mary Fulham with original songs by Paul Foglino. The show stars Broadway, TV and recording star Ellen Foley.

“One of the best Off-Broadway musicals in many a year!” – Backstage

“A funny, insightful, intriguingly inventive show!…songs such as ‘I’ve Got A McMansion On The Hill’ and ‘Because I’m God’ are fresh and witty…a perfect fit for the subversive, brainy humor of the text.” – Curtain Up
