Harry the Dirty Dog, by Gene Zion, is presented by the Manhattan Children’s Theatre.
Harry was a white dog with black spots who liked everything except getting a bath! Before his family can coax him into the bathtub, Harry buries the hated scrub brush in the backyard, and runs off, getting filthier and filthier with each adventure: playing in the street, running at the railroad tracks, playing tag with the other dogs, sliding down a coal chute. He finally gets SO dirty, he is transformed from a white dog with black spots to a black dog with white spots! By the time he finally returns home, his transformation makes him totally unrecognizable to his own family. Unearthing the scrub brush, he begs for a bath and reunites with his family. Kids will relate to Harry’s urge to rebel, the ecstasy of getting REALLY dirty, and finally the comfort of being reunited with his family.
Suitable for children of all ages!
