Marathon 2000, The Ensemble Studio Theatre’s 23rd annual festival of new one-act plays showcases new and premiere plays by emerging and established playwrights.
SERIES C – May 31 – June 11
Birth Marks written by Leslie Caputo, directed by Abigail Zealey Bess: Set in the Lower East Side of NYC, 17-year old Terry, confronts the reality of just giving birth to a baby. The play explores the issues at work when all too often children are having children to escape their own homes. Ultimately, it’s about the need to love and be loved.
Cannibals written by Heather Dundas, directed by India Cooper: This play is a mad, hilarious riff on motherhood and memory, as the law of the jungle comes to the car pool.
The Final Interrogation of Ceausescu’s Dog written by Warren Leight, directed by Jack Hofsiss: A young interrogator tries to obtain a confession from a wise old dog.
Proof written by Jeff Reich, directed by Kevin Confoy: This play is about science, mentorship, legacy, and the ultimate search for meaning.
Alien Boy written by Will Scheffer, directed by Mark Roberts: This play us the story of a 13-year old boy’s attempt to confront his family’s history and his own identity and the betrayals that ensue.
