As a young teenager, Ella Fitzgerald planned on dancing at amateur night at the Apollo Theatre – she changed her mind and sang instead – and won. Starting as a band singer for Chick Webb’s Orchestra, among others, she became the definitive interpreter of the songbooks of Gershwin, Porter, and Rodgers and Hart. Hear some of these wonderful songs and learn a little about Ella’s life.
