About This Show

After hundreds of years of controversy surrounding the legitimacy of Edward III as a work by William Shakespeare, the play receives its New York premiere from hope theatre inc. Considered one of the Bard’s “lost plays,” it was not officially recognized by literary scholars and historians as part of the playwright’s canon until 1997. The work dramatizes the beginning of The Hundred Years’ War.

Edward, King of England, is at war with Scotland when he falls in love with The Countess of Salisbury, the faithful wife of one of his loyal subjects. A war with France and a startling transformation of the king’s young son from schoolboy to cold-blooded killer forces Edward III to look at his own struggle between power, nobility, and human decency. Kelly McAllister stars in the title role, and serves as co-director with Heather Anne McAllister.
