A featured production in the first-ever Festival of Indian Theater. Mahesh Dattani’s Dance Like a Man illustrates the conflict between the artist and society in India today, as well as the conflict between generations. As two aging Bharatanatyam dancers see their stage careers ending, they must face their challenger in the form of their own daughter whose career as a leading dancer is beginning to soar. A wide range of issues is dealt with including that of family rights and duties, the individual and society, and freedom of choice and expression.
