About This Show

This “Extended Barroom Brawl” is set in Yellow Rose’s smoky tavern on the edge of the legendary Texas battle of San Jacinto. Texan roustabouts who resemble mythic frontier figures, such as Sam Houston, Stephen Austin, El General Santa Ana, Davy Crockett and the Yellow Rose of Texas, people the play. Although not yet born, legendary Sioux Chief Crazy Horse stops by to “check the fence.” Inspired by cinematic Western masculinities and lubricated by liquor, opium, desire, poetry, drinking ballads, bluegrass guitar, battlecries, massacre and stage violence, Centaur Battle is a dark ride into the heart of America, Texas-style.
