Captiva Arts presents the world premiere of Birdland, a dramatic portrayal of rural American family life set in a dreamscape of a post apocalyptic world, unfolding against a landscape of martial law, servitude, religious fervor and severe environmental devastation. What happens to the world and a normal American family when an ordinary teenager turns reluctant prophet? Jonas Puck, a 16-year teenager sees things. Are they visions of inevitable death and destruction or just a boy’s vivid imagination run wild? Torn between the influence of his zealot Godmother who encourages him to accept the mantle of his destiny and his familial obligations to his newly widowed mother and the farm, Jonas seeks the council of his father who, since his death, pilots a spaceship in the star-strewn sky. But the need to be a “regular” kid is shattered when an incident of fatal proportions occurs in Jonas’ own hometown. Will the reluctant, young boy prophet be forced into manhood and finally accept his ultimate destiny and save the world?
