Featured are two world premieres and dances from the Company’s repertoire. Many works reflect AGDT’s provocative mix of European and American classical music with a Latin flavor.
The varied program — with abstract, theatrical and comedic dances — challenges and engages. The premieres are Pastoral Latino, a sextet by Annabella Gonzalez set to an original score by contemporary New York City composer Seymour Barab that explores Latin rhythms within dynamic patterns, and One Hundred Days of Sunshine, a solo by talented guest choreographer Maxine Steinman to music by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.
Repertoire by Ms. Gonzalez includes the popular quartet Descent/Ascent with intricate lifts and classical music by modern Mexican composer Max Lifchitz and “Window,” a solo liberating a static Vermeer painting to the dramatic sounds of a rain storm. Mozartmania, an outrageous balletic satire, is performed to an early Mozart work with glittering tutus and feathers!
