About This Show

Anatomical Scenario Movement Theater presents Anna and The Annadroids: The Robots’ Dream Tour as part of the 10th annual New York International Fringe Festival. The show is a multimedia whirlwind of sharp, fierce dancing, ever-changing color schemes, sassy costume design, diverse musical soundscapes, and provocative video projections. Choreographer Anna Sullivan is known for her over-the-top, plastic-jointed, pre-programmed movement vocabulary, which accentuates the anthropological concepts she uses to create 21st century cultural dance.

Anna is a highly interactive “living” mannequin created in the exaggerated image of the idealized female form. The Annadroids are built upon the original Anna android matrix symbolic of today’s consumer society, its’ over indulgences and superficialities. Each piece or “Droidset” serves to illustrate different phases of psychological and behavioral development transitioning from creation to consciousness. “Droidsets” parody Barbie Dream House “Playsets” and reveal the turmoil the Annadroids experience as they realize and struggle with their own artificiality. The social commentary is not so much biting as it is blinking. The Annadroids will stand there and blink at you with their absurdly long false eyelashes until you get the message that blank, mindless acceptance of artificiality is for androids, not human beings.
