In the operatic tradition of the “pants role” (woman playing man), Angel in Between goes one step further when that man, (an updated “Cherubino” from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro), longs to dress as a woman. An exploration into the very existence of gender through this woman playing a man who becomes a woman, Angel in Between is a new paradigm in theater.
The Fritz Theater of San Diego, known for its “remarkable, valuable and varied work” (San Diego Union Tribune), makes its New York City debut in conjunction with En Travesti Productions. The one-person transformational musical play stars Roseanne Ciparick and is directed by the Fritz Theater Artistic Director Duane Daniels. Book by Kate Kaminski, music by Daniel Shamir and lyrics by Timothy Mathis. Based on an original idea by Roseanne Ciparick.
