New York City
The story, written for children, is told from a child’s perspective and brings delightful enjoyment to children and adults alike. The main character, Amahl, an impoverished, physically challenged boy, finds refuge in fantasizing about life’s ordinary occurrences, turning them into the extraordinary. His tales add a whimsical dimension to his meager life but exasperate his loving and caring widowed mother. Children and adults easily identify with Amahl and his mother, and are quickly engaged by the other recognizable characters. Children are especially amazed to see a young boy (Amahl), someone their own age, singing and acting on stage!
