Violet Fire: A Multimedia Opera
The extraordinary life of inventor Nikola Tesla (1856 – 1943) provides the framework for the U.S. premiere of Violet Fire: A Multimedia Opera, composed by Jon Gibson, with a libretto by Miriam Seidel and directed by Terry O’Reilly. Tesla, who first envisioned wireless communication and alternating current among his 700 patented designs, could picture completed inventions and “test” them in his head. Tesla’s concepts, then inconceivably futuristic but familiar to our generation, include a global network of energy and broadcast signals and a weapons shield drawing on the Earth’s energy.
