Intar presents Ties That Bind: Three Plays in Repertory, featuring Latino voices that speak American in the present tense – three emerging Latino playwrights and directors.

Romi Dias, Alain Rivas, and Donald Silva explore the awakening machismo in a young boy and the disruption it causes in his parents’ loving relationship. Over a long hot Saturday, lessons are learned about sex, physical attraction, boxing, and the healing value of fresh home-made tortillas. Simple lessons. Hard to learn.

Take the train to Williamsburg as a disparate Puerto Rican family – two lusty lesbians, a crippled cellist, and a brain-damaged boy – find salvation through a deep-fried baptism in the scalding oils of passion. Past relationships, current longing, and the need to settle up all come to a head at the boy’s birthday party.
