About This Show

A simple love story . . . with a few strange twists

The Most Happy Fella revolves around the complications that arise when Tony, an aging and shy Italian vineyard owner living in Napa Valley, courts and ultimately proposes by mail to Rosabella, a young waitress who once served him in a San Francisco restaurant. Although she has no recollection of Tony, she accepts his proposal, in part because the picture of him he had sent her was really a picture of Joe, his handsome ranch hand.

When Rosabella finally arrives in Napa, tragedy occurs when Tony gets in a car crash and nearly dies. Although furious at Tony for his deception and finding herself romantically involved with Joe, she still marries Tony because she does not know what else to do. Over time, while Tony is recovering from his accident, Rosabella learns to appreciate the sincere and kind Tony, and she falls in love with him. However, more serious complications arise that threaten to harm them all.

Originally produced on Broadway in 1956, The Most Happy Fella was written by Frank Loesser (who was also responsible for the classics Guys and Dolls and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying). As usual for VLOG, this lush and melodic score will be brought to life by a cast of over 50 and 24 piece professional orchestra.

The matinee on Saturday, April 24 will be a Special Children’s Matinee with $20 tickets available for children 12 and under. Children will get a special handout with a plot summary written especially for them and other activities. After the performance, they will have the opportunity to ask questions to the cast and crew and be given a backstage tour to see how the technical crew helps make the show come to life!
