About This Show

The Misanthrope is presented as part of The Young Company: Moliere Cycle, co-produced by Columbia Stages, the producing arm of Columbia University’s School of the Arts Theatre Division, and Classic Stage Company.

Absurd and hilarious on the surface, sad and frightening in implication, The Misanthrope is a dazzling look at sincerity, social rules, and romantic love. The Misanthrope, translated by Richard Wilbur, is staged by Michael Sexton, current Artistic Director of The Shakespeare Society. An internationally celebrated director, Michael Sexton is a regular guest artist at MCC, PS122, the Juilliard School, and most recently, Columbia University.
