The Fiascoes

The New Heights theatrical production of The Fiascoes at Baruch Performing Arts Center is comprised of two separate one-act plays by Frederick Timm called A Fake Fiasco and A Friendly Fiasco. Both plays are hilarious yet insightful explorations of the trials and tribulations that come along with the “C” word: commitment. But the “C” word can be quite the adventure for the modern successful jet-setting professional New Yorker.

In the modern tragi-comedy A Fake Fiasco, Henry is recovering from his recent life-affirming experience of dangling from the Brooklyn Bridge (on purpose). Now he wants a complete life change, beginning with a separation from wife Gwenyth. But Gwenyth would rather throw a dinner party. Guests George and David, whose relationship also hangs over troubled water, get caught up in the fiasco.
In A Friendly Fiasco, Nancy, a financial wizard who is turning 50 is back at her big “white house in the Hamptons” after completing a short stint in “workaholism rehab.” But Nancy claims her best medicine would be for best gay male friend (and house guest) Sandy to get back with his ex Greg. Unbeknownst to Sandy, part of the prescription requires Greg to be invited for the weekend as well a treatment prescribed by Nancy’s live-in shrink Ken. Laugh yourself in a frenzy in this crowd-pleasing portrayal of people in situations that are much too quirky west of New York.
