About This Show

“Pulsating with rhythmic excitement and visceral narration” (St. Paul Pioneer Press), Ragamala artfully blends the ancient art of Bharatanatyam with contemporary dance. Under the artistic direction of Ranee Ramaswamy and starring Aparna Ramaswamy, this dynamic company crafts engrossing, physical tales rich with images of lush landscapes, colorful creatures and powerful emotions. Taiko drumming, modern a cappella singing and traditional South-Indian chanting are the evocative soundscape for this thrilling program that erupts into a whirlwind of flashing red-tipped fingers, stomping percussive feet, darting painted eyes and swirling colored saris.

The 7:00 PM performance on Thursday, May 10 features a signed interpretation for members of the audience that may be hearing-impaired.
