New York City
Mrs. Weinberg’s Profession, an adaptation by Aaron Rosenblatt of one of George Bernard Shaw’s earliest plays, Mrs. Warren’s Profession, opens at Creative Place Theatre, on September 21, 2005 with Shaw’s Mrs. Warren’s Profession opening the following evening, September 22, 2005. In a unique arrangement with Etcetra Theatre Company, both plays will be presented in repertory.
When Shaw wrote the play more than 100 years ago during the reign of Queen Victoria, he had to tiptoe around two of the main topics: incest and prostitution. Rosenblatt’s adaptation takes place not in London of the late 19th Century, but in New York City in the roaring twenties. The play’s plot, theme and characterization parallel the renowned playwright’s structure, but include thoroughly American slang and references.
